Surfactant: CAS #68604-71-7. It is often made from fatty acids found in coconut oil. It functions as a surfactant, which modifies the surface tension of water, to aid in even spreading and to allow mixing with oil and dirt. As part of the EPA Safer Choice Program, it has been evaluated and determined to be safer than traditional chemical ingredients.
Always spot test on a small hidden area before cleaning the entire piece. Wear household gloves throughout.
Do not leave Tarn-X® on any item for longer than two minutes, and never allow it to dry on the surface. Clean any spills on countertops or laminate surfaces immediately. Use in a well-ventilated area.
Do not use on: stainless steel, chrome, pewter, aluminum, brass, zinc, marble, artificially oxidized silver, knife blades, lacquered surfaces, pearls, opals, or porous stones.
And if you need a tarnish remover for industrial or high-volume use, check out Tarn-X® PRO, the same trusted wipe and rinse formula, available in larger sizes and designed for commercial environments like factories, auto repair shops, and commercial kitchens.
For most items, a cotton ball or soft cloth works best. For smaller pieces like sterling silver jewelry, dipping is fine, just rinse with cold water immediately and never leave Tarn-X® on for more than two minutes.
Tarn-X® works on sterling silver, silver plate, platinum, copper, gold, and diamonds. Avoid using it on poorly plated silver, scratched or marred surfaces, or any item that is not in good condition. Do not mix gold and silver items when cleaning.
Very important. If Tarn-X® is not rinsed off completely, it may darken or discolor your silver. Always rinse thoroughly with cold water right after use, and dry each piece before moving on to the next.
Silver may turn golden or dark gray in color if Tarn-X is left on too long and/or is allowed to dry on the silver. To remove the discoloration, fill a small bowl with 1/2 warm water, 1/2 Tarn-X and two drops of dish soap (Palmolive, Joy, etc.). With a soft clean cloth, wash the item with the mixture and rinse with cold clean water immediately. Dry the item off with a soft clean cloth. As a final step, apply a silver polish, to protect the item. This should restore your piece to its original condition. For large items, make sure you clean about 1/3 of the item at a time.
