How to Keep Your Home Clutter-Free During Stressful Times

A perfectly clutter-free and illuminated closet, showcasing meticulous arrangement.

Ever feel like your home is closing in on you, especially when life's already tossing me curveballs? I'm right there with you. For me, there's something almost magical about clearing out the clutter—it's like hitting a reset button for my mind. Imagine, instead of tripping over shoes or sorting through endless piles of 'my stuff,' finding my favorite book or that cozy blanket exactly where they should be. It's all about transforming my chaos into comfort, one cleared surface at a time. So, let's dive into how I turn those stress-inducing spaces into my personal havens of calm, ready?

Utilize Labels for Organization

One of the most important things my remodel taught me is how much time you can save by labeling every box, bag, and bin. Nothing is a bigger waste of valuable time than rifling through boxes to figure out where you put your belts. This also allows other people to find items, which means they won’t be asking you where you put things. Remember to pack all similar items together — clothes with clothes, bathroom products with bathroom products, etc. — to make the unpacking process that much easier. When you put things away, you won’t have to race back and forth between rooms trying to figure out what goes where.

Make Daily Clean-Up a Habit

I once read that dedicating 15 minutes each day to tidy up your home can make a significant difference. I understand that cleaning might be the last thing on your mind after a busy day of work and caring for your kids, but investing a little time can help you stay ahead of clutter. This prevents clutter from overwhelming your space, regardless of the circumstances. While decluttering, consider placing items you no longer need in a box to donate to charity. This approach can alleviate any guilt about parting with items, knowing they will benefit those who need them more.

Turn Chaos Into Order by Purging Unneeded Items

Whether you're in the midst of renovations or simply tackling a deep clean during your available time, embrace the chaos and declutter any unnecessary items. It may feel like you're only adding to the mess temporarily, but the eventual freedom and organization of your space will make it worthwhile.

However, if the idea feels too overwhelming, it's perfectly okay to hold off. Adding unnecessary stress or hindering the project isn't beneficial.

The most important thing to remember is that your space won’t always be perfectly clean and clutter-free — and that’s OK! Life can be chaotic at times, and your space will reflect that. If you stay on top of the mess by addressing small tasks every day, you’ll gradually see the clutter decrease as your peace of mind increases.
