How to Remove Hard Water Stains From Stained Glass

A clean table lamp with stained glass stands in the foreground, while in the background, a person is seen cutting something.

You can clean water marks off of clear glass with CLR® Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover. The question, though, from Rebecca in Spring Grove, Illinois was “Can CLR® Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover be used for colored stained glass that has water marks on it from the sprinkler?”

Rebecca, if the glass has been colored during the manufacturing process and not painted or coated afterward, CLR is safe to use on the glass surface only. It's crucial to avoid any contact with the lead or frame of the stained glass to prevent damage.

CLR can be safely used as a diluted solution of equal parts CLR and warm water. Apply the solution to the glass surface using a damp cloth or sponge, ensuring it does not come into contact with the lead or frame.

After allowing the solution to sit for 2 minutes, gently hand-remove it from the glass using a damp cloth or sponge. Finally, rinse the glass with clear cold water to reveal its restored brilliance.
Do not spray the glass directly to ensure that the CLR solution does not come into contact with the other materials in the stained glass piece.
